2. Rules & Etiquette
(top)
Post content may not contain any of the following:
Any Form of Discrimination
This includes, but is not limited to: race, sex, age, disability or even a member's taste or genre of music.
It is your duty to be respectful to one another!
Talk of religion & politics should be left at the front door – we don't want to hear it!
Your personal views on such things have no place in a music production community.
We are very proud to have a community free of trash talking.
Trolls & flamers will be banned!
Bad Language
Please, no profanity or derogatory terms; we have members of all ages wanting to be a DJ or music producer that use our forums. There is simply no need to swear or spit the dummy. Please try to type in full English, including paragraphs and punctuation, to the best of your ability (TIP: use spell check on Google toolbar).
We do not want to see any of the following:
- Shouting (i.e. TYPING IN ALL CAPS FOR ATTENTION WILL GET YOU NONE).
- Slang (i.e. Gan canny on te' slang, yee knar leik).
- SMS TXT speak (i.e. cba 2 type, ttyl).
- Leetspeak (i.e. 1337 15 n07 4 c0mm0n 1n73rn37 5p34k 4m0n9 r34l h4XoЯ5).
- Idiot Speak (i.e. I woz gonna sea taht biotche, shizzle my nizzle).
- Giant fonts in nasty colours
Remember: Complete sentences with conventional spelling
Spam
Believe it or not, but just like every other forum on this planet, we hate spam.
This means that:
Advertising or linking to any website or product is strictly prohibited, including music production related information or products, unless it is in direct relation to the topic's title, or you have prior permission from a staff member.
Also included are:
- Making a thread or post with useless information or which makes no sense.
- Posting anything not related to the original subject or topic.
- Empty threads & posts: one-word posts or using an image or smiley with no text.
- Flooding the board: don't post the same question across different forums, 'cross-posting'.
- Bumping threads (for the above reasons).
- Double posting (simply edit your first post to add any more information to a thread)
Spammers will receive a lengthy or permanent ban.
Prohibited Files & Content
We do not allow pornographic material, warez or any illegal mp3 activity.
KEEP US AND YOURSELF SAFE FROM BEING PROSECUTED
(we will co-operate with the police fully in any investigations)
(we will co-operate with the police fully in any investigations)
If it is copyrighted then just don't post it, unless you get permission from the original source/author.
This includes hot-linking images from other websites
Lastly...
Engage your brain – has the subject been asked many times before?
Use the search function – then post in an existing topic instead of creating a new one!
Don't be an idiot – please use common sense and logic when you post!
Keep threads & posts specific, focused and on-topic.
Don't ask overly general questions that will take pages to answer (see below)
Search before you post & make sure you do post in the correct section of the forum.

3. Forum Usage
(top)
PM/Email abuse
(For the rules simply follow all those above in regards to post content).
Your private messaging capability will be disabled if abused. A central list is kept of IM, PM and e-mail abuse.
Avatars & Signatures
The maximum size for your avatar is 160x80 pixels. This can be uploaded to the server after you get promoted to junior member i.e. have made 10 posts.
The maximum size for your signature image is 765x130 pixels with a maximum of two lines of text (You may have more lines of text if your image is lower in height to compensate). Signatures may not be used to advertise businesses without permission from senior staff. However, feel free to promote your own music and social networking webpages.
Personal photos in your profile must be no larger than 900x450 pixels.
Any offending images will be deleted on the spot and your warn level will be increased.
Usernames
Offensive, absurdly long, UPPER-CASE and nonsense '124232' type usernames will be either amended or have their account deleted. Also we are not dumb, substituting a number for a letter does not get around our intelligence. The same goes with recreating accounts – hello, we can still see you.
Sock accounts
Creating a secondary account (sock puppet) to circumvent bans or for any other means is an offence and will not be tolerated. We regularly scan our database for members with matching I.P. addresses. When we find them, both accounts are banned along with the I.P. range.
Items for sale
Although we allow members to list items for sale, you enter in to any such agreements at your own risk. We cannot be held responsible for bad transactions. We advise all transactions should take place in a safe manner involving the eBay system and PayPal for added security.
Uploading
You agree when uploading any files that the content is not subject to copyright restrictions, or that you are the copyright holder and give express permission for our members to download the attachment.
Downloading
You agree when downloading any files that the file is to be used only by yourself for non-commercial purposes and will not be uploaded to any other internet site or shared in any other digital form, without the express permission of the copyright holder.
Treatment of Staff
Abuse of staff will not be tolerated. If a Serious Sounds Staff Member tells you to comply with one of the rules, you must comply immediately.
If you argue about the rules, you will be warned and all members of the staff team will be notified. Keep it up, and you'll receive a ban.
If you receive a warning, do the smart thing, take it on the chin and learn from it.
The rules are not there to be questioned – If you do not like them, simply leave!
The rules are not there to be questioned – If you do not like them, simply leave!
If you have a complaint, or think you are being unfairly treated, then e-mail me directly xe-cute@serious-sounds.net and I promise to respond within 48hrs. Be warned though, do not waste my time! Explain in a clear, concise, reasonable and polite way why you think you have been mistreated.
If you feel you have been abused by another member than please notify a member of staff (or Social Services).

4. How to Ask Questions
(top)
Don't be a Spoon! (Noobs vs. Spoons)
Spoons are members who want to be spoon-fed information like a little baby. "Open wide, Spoonie, here it comes!!!" The Spoon is unwilling to do any work at all. They want all the relevant information spooned into their little mouths where they can spit it out if they don't like it. If the Spoon does not get the information they want, they get mad and throw their baby food all over the place.
Noobs are members who have a legitimate desire to learn something and are willing to put in some work. They will read articles for background information, do some Googling, read previous posts on the subject (via the search function), and then when ready will craft a question.
When asking a question, please be specific and include an example. Let us know where you went wrong when you tried to do it yourself.
Always try before asking and include your effort within the post. Then we are happy to try and help you fully understand where you went wrong.
If you have made an attempt, than we know you want to learn, rather than be spoon-fed the information.
Also…
Do NOT ask multiple questions or overly generic questions. How would you like to try to answer this?

I've tried EVERYTHING! And it still won't work!! Any ideas??!
No. we have no ideas when someone has tried EVERYTHING. Because you have tried everything, you obviously are better able to answer your own post than us.
Instead, tell us what you have tried and the line of reasoning you have followed to try and solve your problem. This way we will know if you are on the right track and may be able to figure out how to tell you what to do.
Please state your question as clearly as you know how.
Make sure you post a descriptive title to your post/thread
(instead of "HELP!" use something more descriptive, like, "I need help making a house drum loop")
